How will LEARN help me once I join?

• You will begin by receiving a skills assessment with a trained professional. This will help the LEARN staff and yourself better understand your strengths and weaknesses.
• Next, you will begin your formal business training.
  • Your training will be designed specifically for the you based on the results of your skills assessment
  • Training will be free of charge
  • You will learn the business concepts that you need to start your own business.

After training you will be assigned a free professional business counselor. This counselor will be able to help you with any individual questions that may occur throughout the early stages of your business development. Your business counselor will be an excellent resource when:

• Developing a business model
• Applying for loans
• Filing proper government registration

How do I join LEARN?

1. Register The first step to joining the LEARN program is to register. Registration information and mail-in registration forms are available on this website and from Alabama's Rapid Response Team. Participants are encouraged to register online. » Online Registration

2. Complete Orientation After registering you must complete orientation. You can do orientation

•  In person (Dates and Locations are announced as worker dislocation events occur around the state)

Orientation will explain:

• The risks and rewards of owning a business
• How LEARN can help you get the skills and assistance you need to start your own business

3. Formally apply to the LEARN Program After completing orientation, participants may formally apply for the program. Participants are encouraged to apply online. » Online Application (login required)
